Super7 Spotlight - Rebs / hiicollect

Super7 catches up with Rebs, the Detroit-based collector and artist behind @HiiCollect, and talks all things eerie, cute, and colorful. In this Super7 Spotlight, we dive into their Halloween-inspired toy collection, their passion for sofubi Mummy Boys, and how they use photography and design to bring their collectibles to life.
Name and Location: Where are you located, and what inspires your love for collectibles?

My name is Rebs and I am located in Detroit, Michigan. My love for collectibles stems from my passion as an artist, drawn to the vibrant colors, the childlike sense of wonder, and the appreciation for the artistry and design that make each toy unique.

How long have you been collecting? What sparked your passion for collecting toys and memorabilia?

I’ve been collecting since 2019 and what sparked my passion began with blind boxes. There was something thrilling about the mystery of not knowing what toy I would reveal, and that sense of excitement became addictive.

Do you have a specific focus in your collection? Are you drawn to certain eras, franchises, or types of toys?

I do and it’s a bit biased! I’m particularly drawn to Mummy Boys—I currently have 49 regular ones, along with a mix of Pumpkin Boys, Pocket Mummy Boys, and Keep Watch Mummy Boys. My collection tends to center around Halloween-inspired toys, especially those with a spooky, cute vibe like mummies or drippy monster-like characters. There’s just something about the playful yet eerie aesthetic that resonates with me, and I love how these pieces capture the spirit of Halloween year-round.

What role does photography/social media play in your collection?

These play a huge role in my collection, serving as both a creative outlet and a way to showcase my love for this hobby. I started my account because I felt I needed to be more creative, and I thought it would be fun to combine that with my passion for toys. By photographing my figures and using my Photoshop skills, I played around with digitally dissecting and enhancing the toys, adding another layer of creativity to the process. Social media for sure gives me the space to share those creations and connect with others who appreciate the same mix of art and collectibles.

Who or what inspires your photography style when capturing your collectibles?

I’m inspired by a mix of sources. Sometimes it's the toy itself—the design, colors, or the vibe it gives off—that sparks an idea for how to capture it. I also find a lot of inspiration by browsing other fans' Instagram posts and seeing how they approach their collections. If I'm ever feeling stuck, I like to reach out to my boyfriend for his perspective, as his fresh take can often lead me in a new direction. Ultimately, I believe inspiration can come from anywhere, and I stay open to exploring different influences.

What has been your favorite Super7 release so far? Are there any figures that stand out in your collection?

My favorite Super7 release has definitely been the sofubi Mummy Boys. There's something about the craftsmanship that Brian Flynn created that really resonates with me. Also, as a huge Godzilla fan, anything related to Godzilla is always a huge plus in my book. But if I had to pick a standout, the Mummy Boys have my heart.

What’s the most unique or rare item in your collection? Is there a story behind it?

I don’t have one item that particularly stands out, but I’ve been on the hunt for—a custom hand painted Mummy Boy by Brian Flynn. I’ve seen a few floating around the toy-verse, but I haven’t been able to add one to my collection yet. It’s something I’d love to have because it would be such a special and unique addition, and I know it would perfectly complement the other Mummy Boys I have.

What would you like to see Super7 create in the future? Do you have a dream toy or figure that has yet to be made?

I would absolutely love to see Super7 create a Mummy Boy version of the Universal Monsters, or even their own interpretation of them in the sofubi format.

What’s been the best part of being part of the fan/collector community? Any favorite experiences or connections you’ve made?

I’d say it’s definitely been the friendships I’ve made with people from all over the world. There’s something really special about how everyone is so willing to help each other complete their collections. It's also a lot of fun to talk with others about new releases, especially around convention season when everyone’s excited to see what’s coming out. Those connections and shared enthusiasm for toys make the whole experience even more rewarding.

If you could only keep one item from your collection, which would it be and why?

Oh man, ONE? It would have to be this giant Godzilla toy that one of my dear friends sold to me from her own collection. It’s a reminder of her and to not to take life too seriously — that there’s always joy and fun to be found.

What advice do you have for new collectors? Any tips for starting or growing a collection?

Practice patience and focus on what truly sparks joy. If a toy you’re eyeing is sold out, don’t worry—there’s always a chance it will resurface down the line. Collections can grow quickly, so it’s important to be selective and stick to the pieces that resonate with you the most. This way, your collection stays meaningful without getting overwhelming. Enjoy the process and don’t feel pressured to have it all at once.

How does your collection reflect your personality? Do you think it tells a story about you?

Basically it reflects my love for both the creepy and the cute—it’s a mix of playfulness, a bit of quirk, and plenty of humor. It shows that I don’t take life too seriously and find joy in things that are both odd and charming.
